Britax and BOB make a great team! | @SafeConBritax #BritaxLatinaAdvisory

As a Britax Ambassador, I was privy to a major announcement last year - the union of Britax and BOB. With this union, two of the top brands in the juvenile products category have come together under the Britax umbrella. You already know that Britax is the world's premier manufacturer and marketer of children's car safety seats and strollers. Well BOB is similar to Britax, except that it rules the jogging stroller world.

Strollers in general are a must-have when you have the babies in tow. Jogging strollers become especially invaluable when you're working off those last five (okay... 10!) pounds. They give you flexibility to push their little butts around town, swerve in and out of people in the crosswalk and they make it easy to push 'em up the hill. Seriously. It is WAY easier to push a baby in a jogging stroller as opposed to a regular stroller. I lived in denial with my first baby and tried to do the running/walking stint in a regular stroller. It.did.not.work.

BOB strollers have a lot of great features including:

  • Easy Two-Step Fold
  • Pneumatic (air-filled) tires
  • Adjustable Suspension System
  • Tracking Adjustment
  • and more!

There are a lot of different features (including hand brakes!), and to really learn more about all the great features, you'll want to hop over to the BOB website where you can compare the different BOB stroller features

Meanwhile, if you're looking to kick your weight-loss goals into gear with a new BOB stroller, please enter the BOB stroller giveaway below! Exact model, color and style has not been set, but rest assured that you will love it.

What you need to know about El Día de los Reyes (The Day of the Kings)

I have a few posts this week related to El Día de los Reyes (The Day of the Kings) and I thought to give y'all a quick rundown on this holiday that I will FINALLY be celebrating with the kids and the hubster.

What is El Día de los Reyes (The Day of the Kings)?

It is a religious holiday falling on January 6th, commemorating the day when a group of Kings arrived to worship and bring three gifts to the baby Jesus after following a star in the heavens. You can read the Wikipedia version here.

How is El Día de los Reyes (The Day of the Kings) celebrated?

Growing up, the only way I remember celebrating this holiday was in polishing and leaving my shoes, the night before January 6th, next to my bed - ready for the Kings' presents. The next morning, I would wake up to a small toy inside my shoe (think small dolls). Of course, I was always la consentida (the spoiled one), so I was never one to get the dreaded coal that kids get if they misbehaved. This is also when la Rosca de reyes comes into play.

What is the Rosca de reyes?

The Rosca de reyes is an oval-shaped pastry traditionally eaten on January 6th to celebrate The Day of the Kings. The Rosca de reyes tastes a lot like Hawaiian bread (or maybe more like Challah bread?) and it is decorated with dried and candied fruits, quince and cherries. Each bread has a little baby Jesus figuring baked into it. Whoever finds the baby Jesus figuring is blessed (score!) and they should take the little figurine to their church on February 2nd - before heading home and feeding everyone tamales and atole. Seriously. You see, on January 6th you have people over to your home, or you head to someone's home, and you share the Rosca de reyes with them. So then that same group reconvenes and you're all fed again on February 2nd by the person that was lucky enough to find the baby Jesus.

If it's a really big group, the Rosca de reyes will be huge and you can have the bakery put in more than one baby Jesus in it so the task of feeding a large group is divided. Of course, you don't just serve tamales and atole. You can also serve menudo, pozole, champurrado, etc.

And in case you're interested, the baby Jesus, when hidden in the bread, represents the flight of Jesus, fleeing from King Herod's evil plan to kill all babies that could be the prophesied messiah.

So there you are. A quick "what the heck is El Día de los Reyes (The Day of the Kings)" post so that when I talk about it later, you are all caught up. I'm celebrating this year with the kids because I am getting them cultured-up. I want them to experience much of what I did growing up and this was one of the holidays that I looked forward too (mainly because of the extra toy that I would get). I also think it's about time that my kid starts in on religion and this is very two birds, one stone.

And to get you in the spirit, check out this video where "Ya Vienen Los Reyes Magos" is sung. It's fun, kid-friendly and has some pictures to go along with the song.

Does your family celebrate El Día de los Reyes (The Day of the Kings)?

Make "El Día de los Reyes" unforgettable with Target | @Target #TargetHoliday

As I was saying before, this year will be our first time celebrating El Día de los Reyes (Day of the Kings) at home. I'm a bit nervous about how it's going to go over with the kids since it's really coming out of the blue for them. So in anticipation of this, I'm getting ready by shopping at a store that NEVER lets me down - Target.

Target is my first stop for the main event of this holiday - the toys. Like I mentioned in my earlier post, this is the day where the kids leave their shoes by their bedside on the eve of January 5th for the three kings to stop by and leave the kids a toy for them to wake up to on January 6th. Well, when I was growing up, the toy was always small and fit inside my shoe. I'm thinking that I could probably leave the toy under the shoes so that it gives me liberty with the size of the gift.

These are the two toys that I'm thinking of getting the kids:

For the five year old - The Trash Pack Trashies Garbage Truck (MSRP $19.99). These are tiny little figurines that get lost really easily, but the kid loves 'em.

For the 18 month old - The Amazing Spider-Man Spider Strike Battle Racer Vehicle (MSRP $19.99). Not your usual kiddie toy, but he prefers big boy toys (thanks to my older kid).

I might even go as far as to get the hubster a DOK Smart Phone Tablet Charger Dock, Speaker &a Alarm (MSRP $89.99). He never celebrated this holiday so it would be great for him to be involved too.

I'd say these are some pretty solid choices. Of course, it's not a Día de los Reyes without some treats and drinks!

If you're going to be braving the recipe this year and making your own Rosca de reyes, then you'll want to stock up on Archer Farms fruit strips (perhaps lay them out nicely on top of the bread?). You'll need some coffee and something to sweeten it up too. I personally recommend anything that can be brewed on the Keurig. I'm currently brewing Keurig Tully's Italian Roast K-Cups. It's a dark roast so you can brew it using the "travel mug" setting and it'll still taste just as good!

Of course, you'll want to grab some Archer Farms Gingerbread Coffee Syrup. This way, you can use whichever kind of milk you'd like and still get it flavored.

This is just the start of a great Día de los Reyes with Target. It can easily be your one-stop shop if you want to get in on the fun (remember, it's January 6th)!

And because we all need a little help when celebrating a new holiday, I am hosting a $25 Target gift card giveaway!

Product review: NewerTech NuTouch Gloves | #fashion #tech #2013CES

I am super duper sensitive to the cold. It was 50 degrees in So. Cal. over the weekend and I was freezing my butt off. Regardless, I was on my phone (because given it up would be a step away from insanity) and I kept my fingers nice and toasty thanks to my fancy NewerTech NuTouch Gloves.

Why are they so fancy? Well because they work with any touch screen surface (like my phone) AND they keep my hands nice and warm. Because I used their sizing chart, the gloves I received fit, literally, like a glove. They are perfect in every way possible. The color goes with everything I wear and there is just a little tag on them that sets them apart, but they remain gender-neutral.

How do they work? Well there is a special conductive fiber woven into all 10 fingertips that allows you to maneuver your way around the iPad, iPhone, smart phone, tablet, etc. My favorite part though, is that you cannot tell that they are techy gloves. They look like regular gloves and at only $9 - they are a steal.

Read more about NuTouch Gloves and purchase them here: http://eshop.macsales.com/item/NewerTech/NUTOUCHM

This is not a sponsored post. I received a pair of gloves to facilitate my review. All thoughts and opinions remain my own.

A Typical Day is More Fun in L.A. | @Priceless #LoveThisCity #Cbias #LA

I was born and raised in Southern California, and there is no where else in the U.S. that I would rather live. Like 2Pac said,

"To live and die in LA, it's the place to be
You've got to be there to know it, what everybody wanna see"

Los Angeles is everything to everyone. It is so full of culture, diversity, arts, music, food, entertainment, etc. that you can really find everything that you've been looking for here. And it all started with 11 families that migrated here from Sinaloa and Sonora, Mexico.

FOunders of the city of los angeles

The placket above lists the founders of the city of El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora la Reina de los Ángeles del Río de Porciúncula (L.A. for short). The list includes the names, genders and ages of all the members in the 11 families. You can find it in "La Placita Olvera" on Olvera Street - the oldest part of Downtown Los Angeles. "La Placita Olvera" also houses the first firehouse (no longer in operation), the Chinese American museum, the oldest house, Adobe Avila, and really good and authentic Mexican food.

Rodolfo's Restaurant in Los Angeles

If you do stop on by, I highly recommend getting the Cafe de Olla at Cafe de Camacho. I drink my coffee black, and I love the flavor in this fresh roasted coffee with a touch of piloncillo (Mexican unrefined brown sugar). This is easily a day trip that will take you back to Old Mexico.

Olvera Street

If you're looking for a more star-studded experience, you are likely to run into it any day of the week in Los Angeles. My favorite scenes are the red carpet events because you get that personal experience with the stars, including pictures and interviews. You also get to ask questions like, "who are you wearing today?"

You can even do good deeds right next to stars! Super stars like Esai Morales (one of my favs) who volunteer to clean up the L.A. River. will have you feeling like an L.A. native in no time.

Esai Morales at L.A. River

And after you're doing working and volunteering, you can go out to a rooftop party - in a strapless dress because the weather is very cooperative in Los Angeles.

Covergirl and Latina party

Or maybe catch a backstage show with a hot star like Demi Lovato.

Maybe even a basketball game? And because you are in Los Angeles, you HAVE to cheer the L.A. Lakers (second choice is the Clippers). Tickets to a Lakers game also makes for a super experience (and you know Jack Nicholson will be there!).

I love L.A., it's priceless and I'll take it any day of the week. You never know who you'll see, what you'll find and what you'll experience when you step into the city. MasterCard knows this too so they have been working hard at providing you a great assortment of deals and experiences. The Priceless program  offers valuable experiences for those visiting Los Angeles, Chicago or New York.

Find out more by following them on Twitter, Facebook and of course, check out their website.

p.s. You'll never tire of views like this while you wait in L.A. traffic.

Felizes fiestas!

Nescafé Memento - A coffeehouse drink you make at home!

I'm a HUGE coffee lover. This, you know. I tweet about it, I Instagram pictures of my coffee and I also blog about it. One of my newest finds (going back to September 2012) is the NESCAFÉ® Memento™- a delicious single-serve instant coffee that offers the coffeehouse experience in one convenient stick pack.

What's so nice about the Memento is that it is made with real coffee, milk and sugar so when you mix it with water, it gives you a rich, luxurious foam that matches any coffeehouse cappuccino. It's available in three delicious flavors: caramel latte, creamy cappuccino and rich chocolate mocha. My fav is the cappuccino because it goes so well with my pan dulce. My mom prefers the mocha. either way, a sweet bread is a MUST!

NESCAFÉ Memento is the perfect alternative to coffeehouse drinks that are expensive and full of calories (each pack is only 100 calories)! And the foam totally happens. I will give you a tip though - prepare it just as it's recommended. I added about 2 ounces more of water the first time I made it and it was too watery for me. If I would have followed the directions, my first time would have been as good as the rest of the times afterwards.

So where can you find these little packets of goodness? Everywhere! They are very mainstream and you can find them at your local grocery store including Albertson's, Vons, Pavilions, Superior Grocers, etc. You can also check here to see if your local grocery store carries them.

If you're interest has been peaked, hop over and request your FREE NESCAFÉ Memento sample pack that includes two (2) NESCAFÉ Memento stick packs and a coupon to Save $1.00 on your next purchase of any NESCAFÉ Memento product.

I'm super excited about January this year. There are so many great events happening... and it's also the first year that I get to take my youngest to Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam! Wooooohoooo!!!!

What

Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam®

Where

Angel Stadium in Anaheim

When

January 12 – February 9, 2013.

Before my youngest came along we went every.single.year. Heck, before kids came along we would go every.single.year. We would pack up our blankets, gloves, hats and scarves, find a seat as close to the action as possible and scream until our voices went out. The energy in the stadium is contagious and it is guaranteed that the following day you will wake up without a voice. It is THAT intense.

Monster Jam 2010

This year, the hubster and I get to take our 5 year old and our 19 month old out to watch all the huge monster trucks and the little RC cars at the Angels Stadium. They'll be sporting ear plugs because it can get crazy loud out there, especially when stuff like this happens:

Grave Digger rolls on its side - 2010

This year is extra special because the all-new Hispanic "El Diablo" will debut and it's going to get the crowd going all loco when it comes out.

El Diablo

So if you're thinking about going and you're in Orange County, I highly suggest you get your tickets very, very soon because the first show is this Saturday!

With your ticket, you'll get to experience a massive collection of the world’s best monster trucks who will battle it out in the dirt and put on a great show. In prior years, it's also been an option to rush outside after the show and meet a few of the Monster Truck drivers up close and personal - grab a picture with them and even an autograph! The last time we went we purchased a Grave Digger plushie and had all the drivers autograph it. It's still a great addition to my son's keepsakes.

My nephew with Ironman's driver - 2010

If you're wondering who you can expect at this year's Monster Jam, here's the full list. Although, keep in mind that the trucks are subject to change so you should really head over to MonsterJam.com to see which trucks will be appearing at each Anaheim event.

Monster Trucks

GRAVE DIGGER® (driven by Dennis Anderson) and MAX-D® (celebrating 10 Years of car-crushing mayhem driven by Tom Meents); plus more fan-favorite trucks featured including EL TORO LOCO®, LUCAS OIL CRUSADER®, MONSTER MUTT® DALMATION, METAL MULISHA, BATMAN®, TEAM HOT WHEELS FIRESTORM, GRAVE DIGGER THE LEGEND®, MONSTER ENERGY, MOHAWK WARRIOR, IRON MAN™, CAPTAIN AMERICA and BLUE THUNDER®.

Frugal Friday: Reading is fundamental | #FrugalFriday

Guest post by Justine Burgess

After the holiday craziness, we all need to take a breather. My suggestion? Read a book….or several books, like I did this week. Take a day to unwind, curl up under a blanket with some cocoa (or wine) and immerse yourself in another world. It’ll help you de-stress before the holiday bills come in, and you won’t have to spend money. Here are the books I checked off my list this week (and yes, I really did read each one- it’s an addiction). They ranged from chick-lit to heavy material. All are available at your local Orange County Library; library cards are free. Grab your favorite and relax for a day.

I’ve Got Your Number by Sophie Kinsella

For anyone a fan of her Shopaholic series, this will be a great fast read about the adventures of Poppy Wyatt after she finds a phone in a trash bin. It’s written in Kinsellas typical fashion (Poppy speaks first person to the reader), and in my opinion was great fun.

Deeper than Dead by Tami Hoag

Set in 1985, this murder mystery involves good old-fashioned police work after 4 boys find a dead body in the woods. The cast of characters keeps you guessing as to whom is the guilty party. If you are a Tess Gerritsen fan you will probably enjoy Hoags writing style.

World Without End by Ken Follett

This is the sequel to Folletts book Pillars of the Earth. Set during the medieval period in the town of Kingsbridge, around the time of the great plague, the story revolves around the cathedral that is central to the lives of the characters. If you’ve read the first book, this is a must-read. Carve out some time, though- it’s one-thousand and fourteen pages long.

You Don’t Want to Know by Lisa Jackson

Her newest novel is decent suspense thriller, revolving around the disappearance of the main character Ava’s two-year-old son. The twists and turns leave you wondering what’s real or not right up until the last page.

11/12/63 by Stephen King

Heavy reading. 848 pages of time travel and historical tidbits, wound around the idea of changing history (the assassination of JFK) and the butterfly effect of even the smallest bit of the past being altered. King, in my opinion, is a great storyteller, and I enjoy his most recent novels even more than the horror stories he started with (all of which were quite memorable for me).

Take time out for one of these great books or another that you’ve been waiting to read- you deserve it! Happy relaxing!

Sofia Vergara looked STUNNING yesterday, and rightly so as she was nominated for Best Actress in a TV Comedy Series and her show ‘Modern Family’ was also nominated for Best TV Comedy Series - so she had to look her best!

Now, I can't tell you how to get that body of hers (I'm still working on figuring out that secret), but I can tell you how to achieve her makeup! And it can all be done with using my favorite drugstore brand, COVERGIRL.

Sofia is wearing an up-and-coming designer and is bedazzled in Lorraine Schwartz jewelry.

The make-up artist was inspired by the old Hollywood glamour that is trending for awards season and she put her own twist on it. She shares with us her secrets:

Face

Start by applying Outlast Stay Fabulous 3-in-1 Foundation in Classic Tan (#860) all over and set it with COVERGIRL + Olay Pressed Powder in Medium.

Cheeks

Apply a light dusting of Queen Collection Natural Hue Bronzer in Brown Bronze and Cheekers Blush in Sierra Sands, a warm blush, on the apples of the cheeks.

Eyes

Apply Eye Enhancers 1-Kit in Brown Smolder, and softly blended it over the entire lid. Then apply LiqulineBlast Liner in Brown Blaze along the bottom lash line and extended it past the lash line to give a slight wing. Finish off the look with three coats of Clump Crusher by LashBlast Mascara on top to really emphasize the lashes, followed by one coat on the bottom.

Lips

Apply Queen Collection Lipcolor in Into the Red straight from the tube, blotted and added another coat to make it last all night.
