The iPotty for the iPad by CTA Digital | #2013CES @CTADigital

CES 2013 in Las Vegas produced a lot of great and innovative products. While most were geared towards adults, there were some products there that I sought out to share with parents. Case in point: The iPotty for the iPad by CTA Digital.

Set to be released in first week of March on Amazon.com, the iPotty for the iPad is the CTA Digital's solution to a fun and easy potty-training experience, and it looks like it was created for the techy baby in mind.

My kid is 19 months and halfway potty training. He goes poop in the toilet, but not pee. When he does use the toilet, it takes him FOREVER. It gets to the point where I'll take my iPad in there with me to either set up on the counter like this:

or I simply take the iPad with me so I can do my social media stuff while he reads a book.

Either way, the iPad is a part of our process while we wait for him to do his work. So I suppose that this product is a natural extension of what I'm sure is a popular routine for a lot of potty training households.

iPotty for the iPad at CES

The iPotty for the iPad features a child-proof case for the iPad that sits on a mount high enough for the kid to see while he does his business. It's meant to entertain the kids so that they'll actually sit in the toilet instead of screaming their heads off to get off of the toilet or, to encourage kids to use the toilet because in doing so, they'll get to use the iPad.

The iPotty for the iPad conveniently comes with a splatter shield for the boys

and when not in use, the accompanying green cover will double the toilet as a mini-desk.

iPotty for the iPad at CES

I started talking about the iPotty for the iPad last week on our Facebook page and it quickly became a subject that a lot of moms chimed in on. Here is what a few of them had to say:
This will be a sure way to train them that when they go to the bathroom in school they can play with their phones and electronics instead of doing their business quickly and going back to class- Elizabeth T.
People take reading material of all kinds to the restroom. Why not the lil ones? - Amy C.
I think it's a little ridiculous. Too much stimulation (especially at potty training age) and they won't be able to focus on the task at hand. Plus, they are going to want to wipe and immediately go back to playing the computer instead of washing their hands. - Keri S.L.
From the time he could sit on the potty Junior has been taking offroading magazines and Hot Wheels in with him. I have a funny feeling if he had had that when PTing, I would never have seen him again. - Justine B.
This Is cool. I wouldn't be scared of them messing my iPad up - Christine O.
My kids would just want to sit there in order to use it. - Alma P.
These were just a few responses because it was a hot topic last week on the page. Moms from all sorts of backgrounds had something to say about the product and it was really interesting to read the different points of view.

I am personally on the fence about this product. Yes, it's innovative, different and kid-friendly, but with my kid, it would probably take him a very, very long time to get off of the toilet if he had something like this to sit on. I think it's a product that is geared more towards the kids that hate even looking at the toilet, or that are scared of it, and the iPad is simply a bribe to get them to sit still long enough for them to do their thing. So I suppose it would work for some households, I'm just not sure about mine.

So what are your thoughts on the iPad for the iPotty. Is it something that your home will be having this March?

Look Good Feel Better® is a program dedicated to boosting cancer patients’ self-esteem and confidence through lessons on how to manage the appearance-related side effects of cancer treatment. Soon, they will partner with Univision’s Lourdes Stephen for a FREE Spanish-language “virtual” workshop.

Ms. Stephen will be joined by beauty experts who will offer instruction, tips and advice – tailored to Latina women - for dealing with hair loss, changes in skin, complexion and nails during your cancer treatment, taken straight from the live LGFB community based group workshop program.

This event is a big deal for the Latino community because breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Latinas, followed by colorectal cancer and thyroid cancer. In fact, 1 in 3 Latinas will be diagnosed with cancer in her lifetime. And even though Latinas have lower breast cancer rates than white women, they are more likely than whites to be diagnosed at a later stage, when the cancer is more advanced and harder to treat.

I invite you to check in on the webinar and listen to some tips on how to look your best, despite going through cancer. Y muchos abrazos if you're currently dealing with it.

The Whirlpool Fireplace (concept phase) | #Whirlpool2020 #2013CES

Yesterday I talked about the iPotty for the iPad at CES. Like the tech potty, the Whirpool Fireplace is another truly unique product. So unique that we received a sneak peek, but no word on where to get it because it's still in concept phase.

Whirpool Fireplace #whirlpool2020

The Whirpool Fireplace is based on the idea of family and friends gathering around the fireplace, conversing, eating, and enjoying the company.

It is not meant to be used at any particular time, rather, Whirlpool is looking for consumers to use it morning, noon and night without having to wait for a special occasion to use it.

Whirpool Fireplace #whirlpool2020

The new Whirpool Fireplace looks nothing like an ordinary fireplace, and that's because it goes beyond just releasing heat. With the Whirpool Fireplace, you can both heat AND cool foods and drinks. This technology makes it ideal for every day use.

As you can see from the image above, the fireplace consists of two major pieces. The top also produces different lighting while the bottom piece houses the heating and cooling components.

Whirpool Fireplace #whirlpool2020

Whirpool Fireplace #whirlpool2020

And because the product is still in concept phase, it wouldn't be far off if additional components (such as music) were added.

While at CES, I had the opportunity to sit down with John Levancowski of Whirpool where he further explained the product and gave us some background on the product.

Having read and heard about the Whirlpool Fireplace, is it something that would have a place in your home when it is released?

Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam Tips | @MonsterJam #MonsterJam

We're heading out to see the coolest trucks on Earth next week and so I thought I'd share with you a few tips I've picked up along the way to truly enjoy this experience.

Bring a blanket. This is number one on my list because it gets very, very cold outside. The Angels Stadium is open and when the sun sets, the coldness comes along. Don't worry - you won't be the only ones with a blanket.

Bring a jacket, gloves, beanie. The works! If you decide to go against bringing along a blanket, bring along all your winter clothing instead. You're going to need it.

Bring earplugs. It doesn't matter where in the stadium you are, it is going to be loud. The noise won't just be coming from the trucks either. The crowd cheers non-stop so it is likely that you'll want to protect your eardrums from the screaming and yelling coming from your neighbor.

Bring cash. Sure, you say you're not going to buy anything but the fact is, you will. The nachos and beer are pretty popular and the merchandise is pretty cool. I would suggest you purchase something that can be autographed, just in case the drivers come out to meet the audience after the show.

Leave the babies at home. I'm sorry parents, but babies won't get anything out of this experience. It'll probably throw them into crying fits because it can get really loud, crazy and fun - and the baby just won't understand what is happening. Wait a year to bring the bebe because then the baby will be able to cheer right along with the rest of them.

I really hope that if you're in So. Cal. that you can make it out to see the monster trucks. They are loads of fun, and what's great is that you can go out to Target the next day, buy a bunch of Hot Wheels Monster Trucks and the kids can keep the fun going at home.

Frugal Friday: Saving money with eMeals | @eMeals #FrugalFriday

Guest post by Justine Burgess

Wow, the Holiday Season flew by, and our new year has already been packed to the brim with things to do. With such a hectic pace and no time for much of anything (especially meal planning), I'm glad to know that using eMeals, an online menu-planning service, can simplify things for me by having ready-made weekly dinner menus and customized grocery lists.

The Service

I tend to be a very price-conscious consumer, looking for discounts, coupons, or bargains at every opportunity. While eMeals is a paid subscription service, it can actually help save money by cutting back on waste and unnecessary purchases. You have options as to which plan you'd like to sign up for, and from what grocery store (including Ralphs, Target, WalMart, and many others). They are tailored to fit almost any family, budget, or lifestyle. Plans offered include: Classic Meals, Low-carb, Low-fat, Portion Control, Natural and Organic, Simple Gourmet, Gluten-free, Paleo, and Vegetarian. You can also change your plan once a month if you want to try something new.  Plans (the menu with recipes and the grocery lists) are posted online every Wednesday (the day most grocery stores update flyers, though retailers like Walmart and Target tend to go Sunday to Saturday), and you may have them emailed to you, or simply download them from the e-Meals website. The current week and the previous week are available. You may also add breakfast or lunch to your dinner plans for an additional fee.

Our Experience

We signed up for the Walmart Classic Family dinner plan (serves 3-6 per meal). Our grocery list included all the ingredients we needed each week. It’s broken down by meal number, grocery item, and current store price. Pantry staples needed appear at the bottom of each weekly grocery list. The first week might wind up being a little more than list price, if you don't have the pantry staples yet, but you will use them throughout the plan.

The menu pages are as simple as the grocery lists. All ingredients are shown for the main dish, along with a side dish, and instructions for preparation. Each menu is quite different than the week before, though many have similar ingredients. You can personalize meals with substitutions and additions, as we did. Choose what you like out of the dinners offered and adjust them to your needs.

One of the meals we chose to make was Chicken Pasta. It seemed fast and simple, and had a short list of ingredients- chicken, bow-tie pasta, milk, broth, flour, onion, bell pepper, and parmesan cheese. I had purchased some turkey on sale, so I substituted that for chicken, but otherwise the recipe was unchanged. I followed the directions precisely. The sauce took longer (way longer, as in 30 minutes longer) than the 5-7 minutes it was supposed to, but other than that the recipe seemed to be fairly on point.

I probably would have added in some fresh herbs and maybe some mushrooms, and used penne pasta instead of farfalle (bow-tie) had I been the test-kitchen chef that thought this up. It would have saved the recipe from looking like a budget dinner. Flavor was decent- not gourmet, but good enough that my 5-year-old finished off his plate, and that does not happen very often around here. The amounts the recipe called for gave us enough food for 6-8 people, so we had enough leftovers to freeze for future meals. I’d give that recipe a 3.5 out of 5 stars.

I can’t wait to try out more- many are slow-cooker recipes (serious time-savers) and I just happened to get a new Crock-Pot around the holidays. My one suggestion to eMeals? Include photos on the menu. It’s nice to have an idea of what your food is supposed to look like. If it’s pictured to be beautiful pasta with pesto and instead looks like Hamburger Helper, you know you did something wrong.

Overall, for a time-crunched person that needs ready recipes and simple ingredients, eMeals works. The grocery lists and menus are well put-together and the price range is reasonable. For the relatively small subscription fee, many people will save time, money, and stress, plus it eliminates the guesswork of what to make each night. If you try it, check out a few of the plans until you find the one that works for you. I think we’ll be switching over to the Natural and Organic plan for next month, since the upcoming spring and summer mean more fresh fruits and veggies. Can’t wait to cook!

Savers Thrift Store 50% Off Sale Monday | #Savers

Guest post by Justine Burgess

Bargain alert! Thrifters and frugal fashionistas, take note! This Monday, January 21st, all Savers Thrift Stores across the U.S. are holding a 50% off sale! That’s right- 50 percent!

I am so excited- Savers sales are some of the most fun you can have at a thrift store. Whenever I’ve been to one of these special sale days, they make it THE place to be by having fun trivia contests and games. This is a great opportunity to shop for upcoming parties (like, say, Superbowl or Oscar parties), find some decorations for Valentines Day, Easter, or next Christmas, or simply because you want to refresh the look of your home or your wardrobe. At some past events, they’ve offered Savers bucks as game prizes to spend in store that day. At the last sales I attended (Presidents Day and Memorial Day), trivia questions (related to the holiday) were asked every few minutes, and I won several Savers bucks for the correct answers. My son and I also yodeled (that’s right, YODELED) over the intercom and then hula-hooped (not very successfully, I might add) in public - the lure of three Savers bucks was too great a temptation to resist. Heck, I’d tap-dance like Fred Astaire or Gene Kelly if it meant getting even more savings.

I shop at Savers often, and in my opinion the prices are very reasonable. Stores are clean and extremely well organized- clothes are organized by type, size, and color, making it easy to find just what you need. Household goods are carefully displayed on the shelves, and smaller items are bagged together and priced as a lot. Even the toy section is kept fairly organized, and that’s a minor miracle in the thrift store world. Plus, the people that work at the Savers I frequent are incredibly helpful and invariably cheerful, which makes for a very pleasant shopping experience. It’s the only thrift store my 5 year-old son actually LIKES shopping at with me. I’ve been known to spend up to 8 hours shopping there. Ok, that sounds slightly insane… but I managed to score a pair of authentic True Religion jeans for $15 and a pair of Seven for all Mankind jeans for $6.50, along with a plethora of other awesome finds that day.

Super Savers Club card

Don’t forget to sign up for the Super Savers Club Card to get email updates and special offers. You can also sign up in-store when you head down there on Monday for the sale. And don’t forget to bring any donations you might have! You’ll be helping out a good cause by bringing in gently used items you no longer need.

When

Monday January 21st.

Time

9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

What

50% sale day discount (does not include jewelry, books, new items, or items tagged housewares or furniture, and no other coupons or discounts apply).

Shopping at Savers is a great way to keep more money where it belongs- in your wallet. Click here to find your local store.

UPDATE: Club card members can get sale prices a day early as well, on Sunday!

How to Train Your Dragon Live Spectacular at Honda Center | @HondaCenter #DragonsOC

The How To Train Your Dragon Live Spectacular is truly magical, well choreographed and the technology utilized is really top-notch. The show features fire-breathing dragons, a few dance sequences and amazing video that is projected onto walls that allows characters to fully immerse into a fantasy world.

It's a family-friendly show made for kids and adults of all ages. Our family (2 adults and 2 kids - 5 years and a 19 month old) all truly enjoyed and found it to be the perfect length. It started a few minutes after 7 p.m. and it finished around 9 p.m. (with a 20 minute intermission in between). I will tell you though, it was pretty loud and some kids might get scared with the dragons, fire, noise, etc.

The actors and dancers were spectaculars and really gave it everything they had for the entirety of the show. "Hiccup" did a fabulous job of walking the wall and even from rows away from the stage, I felt that he cared for the "Toothless" (the dragon). There was also an incredible energy in the building that really had us cheering for both the vikings and the dragons. And if you're wondering if the dragons really were breathing fire and flying around the stage, the answer is YES!

I'm happy to share that there are still tickets available for the previously sold-out performances at the Honda Center. If you're looking to get a deal, here are two discount codes you can use:
RONALD - Get discount tickets as low as $15.50. Bonus: a $5 donation will be made to the Ronald McDonald House of Orange County.
MOM - Save up to 25% via Ticketmaster.com
This is one performance where you'll want to get merchandise available there. How to Train Your Dragon toys are a rarity because there weren't many produced. At our show, there were many goodies available for purchase, including a few that light up. The viking hats that light up were the best because they light up red and blue and so I would look out into the audience and see a lot of blue and red lights. So what did we get? A necklace ($8), a flashlight ($10) and a mug ($15) that will be used as a pencil cup.

I tried to take fabulous pictures for you, but per the vikings request, flash photography was not allowed so as not to bother the "dragons." So I tried my best and what you get is a slideshow I created especially for you with about 35 pictures that I took. It's under 3 minutes long and it'll give you a great idea of the fabulousness you can expect at the show.

Last year, M&M’S launched the “I M“ campaign - a campaign that celebrates the uniqueness of M&M's lovers (and I KNOW you love 'em).  To celebrate at home, I was gifted a cute tee that says, "I M Impresionante (impressive)."

And as well all know, every campaign needs a spokesperson. Well this campaign features well-known M&M’S spokescharacters such as Señorita Brown, Red and Yellow who all shared their unique personalities online and in commercials - like the one that features William Levy.

To further celebrate this campaign, I am giving away two sets of t-shirts that say, "I M Fabulosa (fabulous)." I personally chose this word because I totally believe that all my readers are fabulosas. You girls (and guys) all rock!

Anyhow, enter to win one of these two sets of t-shirts (one for you, the other for your bestie?). These shirts are all a size large and they are a great fit on a woman's body. The material is soft (think vintage), not too short and form-fitting. It'll look super cute on you!

Alex and your other favorite Madagascar pals are back in an all-new adventure! This Valentine's Day adventure also happens to be Alex's favorite holiday and just like the Christmas-theme movie brought lots of laughs, so will this one.

You'll get to see Melman planning a big surprise for Gloria, Marty trying to impress a new friend and everyone waning to get their hands on King Julien's love potion. It's 22 minutes of laugh, love and friends.

The kids and I had the opportunity to watch it and it was a great holiday movie. This year we'll be celebrating Valentine's Day at home with treats, coffee and lots and lots of red and pink. Madly Madagascar was a cute way to involved the kids in this holiday and make it a part of our tradition.

Twenty-two minutes went by too quickly. The first few minutes really kicks it off in a hilarious way and I love the music that they feature in it. It even had my 19 month old laughing right along side my 5 year old. It's family friendly, and although the younger ones won't understand the dialogue, they'll be mesmerized by the dancing, the colors and the music.

Madly Madagascar will be available at a retailer near you on January 29th for $14.95 (MSRP). You can also pre-order Madly Madagascar on Amazon for only $5.99.

Far Cry 3 ubisoft

Thank you to Ubisoft for sponsoring this post. Please visit Amazon.com to get your own copy of Far Cry 3, today's Gold Box Deal of the Day! I was selected for this opportunity as a member of Clever Girls Collective. All opinions are my own.

At the end of my day, I can be described as one thing - exhausted. Running around after the kids, writing, attending events, household responsibilities, etc. will get to you (no matter how much coffee you've had). There are some times where I just count the minutes until 7:30 because that is when I'll finally get a minute to just relax.

When 7:30 comes around I round up the kids and I get them in the shower. Most moms give their kids baths, but I give the kids showers because I use this time to sit on the floor and... play video games. Seriously. I look forward to shower time just as much as they do because they chill out in the shower, play and do whatever it is that has them screaming and I sit outside on the iPad playing video games because I tell myself that their shower time is also "me time."

hand held gaming system

I get them out of the shower at 8 p.m. and I'm so happy to have that half hour to myself before hand because once the kids are asleep, I'm back to work on my computer. I can't sit around and play video games any longer because there is work to be done. But for that half hour between 7:30 and 8:00 p.m., it is practically the ONLY thing I can do and I don't have any guilt for taking that time for myself and do something as fun as play a game online.

If you're looking to get a new game to fill up your "me time", I suggest you check out Far Cry 3. It is rated mature, but if you don't care about violence and such, it'll be a great game to get. The hubster is one of those men that also de-stress by playing video games and he's anxiously waiting for his copy to come. He likes to play online with others, so the game lasts a lot longer in our home because it can be played over and over and over again.

Hop on over to Amazon.com and purchase Far Cry 3 TODAY (1/22). It is available at a really low cost thanks to it being the Gold Box Deal of the Day: http://clvr.li/FC3Gold.

Bring your loved ones to Mimi’s Cafe this February and raise awareness during American Heart Month, by participating in the American Heart Association’s mission to turn America red. Mimi's Cafe is in its second year supporting Go Red for Women and this year, they want to be involved even further in fighting against heart disease - the number one killer of women.

On February 1st, Mimi's Cafe is asking their guests to show support by wearing red and in exchange, guests will receive a FREE cup of signature soup.

During the remainder of February, guests that donate $1 will receive a red heart-shaped tribute card to inscribe and post on a giant in-restaurant red dress display. Guests that donate $5 will receive a limited-edition sparkle red dress lapel pin. All donations are accepted and every donor will also receive up to $30 in Mimi’s savings. Furthermore, every Tuesday throughout the month of February, Mimi’s will thank its guests that donate with a delicious cup of FREE soup.

Mimi's is going above and beyond fundraising though, they are also encouraging all of its guests to make healthy decisions while dining out. Mimi's Cafe does have a great list of healthy-choices on its menu. My personal fave is the cobb salad - and I have Mimi's Cafe substitute the meat for a veggie pattie and I skip the dressing. It's super delish. You'll have to try it.

I have a fun red dress that I'll be wearing to Mimi's Cafe on February 1st - and I hope you do too because I want to see pictures! Need a little encouragement to visit Mimi's Cafe this February? I cannot begin to tell you how much I enjoy watching the Harlem Globetrotters. Mind you, I have yet to see them in live, but they are amazing on TV! I stand my ground that if all NBA players played like the Globetrotters, then there would be A LOT more people watching basketball games!

I am even more over the moon that these talented guys are going to be visiting Orange County on February 16th, Los Angeles on February 17th and Ontario on February 18th as part of their 2013 “You Write the Rules” World Tour.

The 2013 “You Write the Rules” World Tour brings a fun opportunity for fans to decide the rules for the game that could affect the final outcome. This could be anything from playing with two basketballs at once, to getting double the points for each basket made.

Fans can go online with their kids to HarlemGlobetrotters.com/Vote to vote for which ground-breaking rule they want to see implemented in the game.  Then, fans can purchase tickets to see the winning rules live at the game.

Monster Jam at Anaheim Stadium - Make it a family night! | @MonsterJam

We had the most wonderful time at Monster Jam at Anaheim Stadium last night.

Family fun at Monster Jam

We got there around 6 p.m. and noticed that the parking lot was already full. As it turns out, it's a "thing" to get together with other monster truck fans and tailgate before the event. We walked through the parking lot and I can already tell you that we'll be doing that next year.

I had my hair up in a pony tail with the full intention of it frizzing out during/after the rain - but it never came! We were super lucky and enjoyed the entire show without so much as a drop on our heads.

I highly recommend bringing out the family for the next Monster Jam show at Anaheim Stadium (Saturday, February 9th), or to another show near you. It's two and a half hours of fun monster truck competitions, lots of screaming fans and maybe an over-turned truck or two.

Grave Digger vs. Captain America

And remember how I was telling you that it was my youngest's first time attending the show? Well, I wish I had left him at home. It wasn't the show, but it was the fact that he couldn't sit through the entire event. He lasted a few races (about a half hour), and then spent most of the time bouncing from lap to lap. Thankfully, kids under 2 are free!

Anyhow, I still stand by the fact that Monster Jam is A LOT of fun for the whole family. It's very kid-friendly, there is a lot of excitement and every show will give you a different experience.

I had the opportunity to read Beautiful Creatures last year in anticipation of the big screen adaptation. I was hooked on the book as soon as I started reading it. Ethan and Lena (the two main characters in the book) are going to be the next big couple and reading the book first, really got me connected to the characters.

"Book to Screen" Featurette

I'm a huge sucker for love stories. And although there is a lot of supernatural going on throughout the story, it's not forced which makes it much more believable.

About Beautiful Creatures

Beautiful Creatures tells the story of two star-crossed lovers; Ethan, a young man longing to escape his small town, and Lena, a mysterious new arrival. Together, they uncover dark secrets about their respective families, history and town. As the tie between them strengthens, they become tangled in a dangerous web of spells and secrets from which there may be no escape.
