Sunday at Knott's Soak City. #SoakCityOC

#SoakCityOC
We had the most amazing time at Knott's Soak City on Sunday. Mother Earth seemed to have gotten my memo because we had the most perfect Southern California weather. Hot enough to make the water inviting, but not so much that you'd start sweating just by standing there.

We walked towards Soak City and were greeted by roosters, chicken and ducks on the way there. We had to keep leading the kids (my son and niece) forward because they kept aweing and pointing at them as though THEY were the main attraction.

If you've never been to Knott's Soak City let me tell you that it's a great place for EVERYONE in the family to spend a fun water-filled day with great music playing in the background. No swimming required (life vests are available FREE of charge) and there is something for everyone. Seriously! We took our Radio Flyer wagon, stuck our 11 month old in there along with our beach totes and off we went. We took out the baby everywhere we stopped and just let him roam free. His favorite spot was Gremmie Lagoon. He's a tiny little man and yet he was able to splash around just fine and have his Soak City fun. Of course, if you plan on taking your babies with you make sure to slap on one of those swimming diapers. This was our first time using them and they work like a charm.

My first stop was Banzai Falls, mainly because it's the first slide that we passed and I was dying to do something that would get the adrenaline going. I was not disappointed. My six year old niece went on with me and yes, she was a little freaked out but she still did it.

Getting off Banzai Falls
My next stop should have been Old Man Falls, but the kids set their eyes on the Toyota Beach House and we were there for the next hour and a half. My boy who is four years old wasn't sure about going down the water slide but in the end he did and I was happy to see that he liked it! By the way, there is a height requirement of 42" inches to go down the slides at the Toyota Beach House.

The hubster and the kids stood under the huge bucket a few times and waited for it to tip over and drench them. It's really cool to see it happen.

Soak City also has these Big Squirt Fill Stations at the kid's playgrounds where they can fill up their Big Squirt and have water fights. Big squirts are available for purchase in their gift shops, just make sure to bring them back with you on your return visit!

My boy holding a Big Squirt at the Big Squirt Fill Station
Our next stop was the Sunset River. I stuck my 11 month old on one of those tubes and he floated down the river. It must have been really relaxing because he fell asleep! This is one of those attractions at the park where you can just lie there and relax. If you choose to, you can also walk it, but where's the fun in that?

We had a BBQ lunch at the birthday zone and then headed to the Gremmie Lagoon where we spent the remainder of the day. This was the PERFECT spot for the baby because there's a small layer of water that allows the kids to splash around and again, no swimming required. My son loved going down the mini-mini water slides.

We finished the day with Dippin' Dots and one more bucket dump at the Toyota Beach House. It was such a great day and the kids were asleep about three minutes after we got in the car.

Knott's Soak City is the perfect place to spend the day and it's only open seasonally so I highly suggest you pack up your family, take a trip over there and live it up! Season passes are available as are cabana rentals. Heck, you could even host a birthday party at Knott's Soak City! It's so the place to be at during those hot Summer days. There are three locations in California and though I've never been to the other two, I'm sure they're as great as the Orange County location.

Here are a few tips that may be helpful to you when planning your visit:

* DO NOT FORGET YOUR SUNSCREEN! You can get sunburned being out all day. Although there are shaded areas at Knott's Soak City, you're not going to be under the shade all day and I can tell you, I saw plenty of folks getting sunburned because they forgot their sunscreen (although you could also purchase it at their gift shop).

* There are grassy areas where you can set up shop. I saw a few families with sport-brellas. I would have brought mine if I knew that we could.

* Strollers and wagons are allowed. We opted for the wagon and got plenty of use out of it. Our 11 month old spent time in there and even napped in it!

* Outside food and drinks are allowed, but there are also three great concession stands where you can purchase food. We got a veggie wrap from one of them and it was huge!

* The huge slides all have a lot of steps to get to the top of the slide. They may or may not be wheelchair accessible.

* Lockers are available to rent as soon as you walk into Soak City.

You can post any questions or comments on the Knott's Soak City Facebook page or tweet them @Knotts They're really good about getting back to you and you can see what others are saying about it.

I have tons more pictures on our Facebook page. Stop on by and take a look!

My family and I were invited to spend the day at Knott's Soak City as their guests. Even so, my opinion and thoughts were not compromised in any way.

The one where I show you my GUESS? Halter Swimsuit with Plunge and Ruffles

I am nothing if not transparent in this blog. I don't lie, I give you my honest opinion and I do what and write what I feel you would want from me when I review items... such as this swimwear. Yes, I will show you what the bathing suit looks like on me, imperfections an all. Why? Because I want YOU to know that I will do what it takes to give you an honest review and that includes being half naked. But before we get to the goods, let me show you what the GUESS? Halter Swimsuit with Plunge and Ruffles is supposed to look like:

GUESS? Swimsuit, Plunge Halter Ruffle One Piece

GUESS? Swimsuit, Plunge Halter Ruffle One Piece

As you can tell, it's a  beautiful suit. I chose this swimsuit for the specific purpose of wearing something that I could comfortably wear down a water slide without feeling like something would inexplicably untie, unhook, slip, etc. I loved the pink and so I went with that color.

You should know that this is my first one piece swim wear that I have purchased. Not because I have this totally hot body that shouldn't be covered up, but because I'm not really into pools, beaches or suntanning. Sure, I'll go to a pool and/or a beach (I mean, this is So. Cal. after all), but I'll lay in the shade in shorts. So knowing that I would be slipping and sliding at Knott's Soak City, I made sure to order it with that in mind. I should also not that I'm not overly (or even subtly) voluptuous on top so full coverage wasn't a concern of mine. What I was more concerned about was that it would be long enough for my 5'8" frame. I ordered a size small because I thought that anything bigger would just be too big on top. Sure enough, it came in and I had to go exchange it for a medium because when I had the small on, it would either show too much on top, or too much on the bottom.

So I went into Macy's, switched it out for a medium and the length was almost perfect, but the top wasn't. It was a little loose but nothing that I couldn't manage so that's the one that I wore to Knott's Soak City on Sunday

GUESS? Swimsuit, Plunge Halter Ruffle One Piece available at Macy's
Wearable with shorts

swimsuit with ruffles, Guess, one piece, Macy's
So as you can see, there is a little give on the side of the suit due to my, um, underdeveloped chest.

I also decided to throw it in the wash along with my kids' swim clothes and used the "handwash" cycle. I should have followed the directions on the tag because some of the color came off in the wash and onto my kids' clothes. Not enough to make a BIG difference, or even a notable difference, but it still happened. Next time I won't be so lazy and I will wash it by hand. Or I'll stick it in the wash again, but by itself. So there you have it folks. My utterly transparent opinion of this great swimsuit. And just so you know, I'm not fishing for compliments on the way that it looks on me. I wrote this to share with you my swimsuit choice that allowed me to cover up my insecurities and made my good parts shine. So now you tell me, what kind of swimsuit do you wear during the Summer? Link 'em up in the comments below. I would love to check them out.

I received this beautiful bathing suit from the wonderful folks at GigaSavvy. My thoughts and opinions remain my own.

‘The Magic, The Memories, and You!’ Summer Show Begins May 25 at Magic Kingdom Park AND Disneyland!

Heading to Walt Disney World or Disneyland this Summer? Well then you'll get to experience the NEW "The Magic, The Memories, and You!" Summer show as it begins on May 25, 2012 at Magic Kingdom Park (Walt Disney World) and at Disneyland. I had the immense pleasure of seeing the regular "The Magic, The Memories, and You!" show last month and it was unbelievable. They project hundreds of pictures that were taken of guests at the park on that day and choreograph it to Disney music. They mix in other cool scenes and effects as well. It's about a 10 minute show and worth the wait.

These are a couple of scenes that we saw in the regular show:

And here's a scene of the castle being turned into a sandcastle in their new Summer show.

So what can you expect in their new Summer show? Well it will take you from the beach, to the jungle and even under the sea with some of your favorite Disney characters and songs. The show will lead you on a surfin' adventure with Goofy, a sing-a-long with Timon and Pumbaa and you'll rock out with Ariel, Sebastian and the crustacean band at the bottom of the ocean.

Along the way, the beautiful Cinderella Castle will go through astonishing transformations including a sand castle, ancient vine-covered ruins, colorful finger-paintings and a tropical aquarium. You'll see all of this plus other visual surprises with an energetic musical score that will keep you mesmerized throughout the show.

If you can't make it out to either Disney parks, you can create your own Cinderella Castle Magic online at home! Click here and create a personalized castle projection show using your own photos via Facebook! Heads up that it takes a couple of minutes because it pulls your pictures from Facebook.

I was invited to the Summer To Remember press event as a guest of the Walt Disney Company. I was not asked, nor expected, to write about all the wonderful events and experiences that I had but I still will because I want you to know all about the great goodies that Disney has planned for the Summer. Thoughts and opinions remain my own.

There are so many great events, attractions and shows coming to Walt Disney World and Disneyland this Summer including, but not limited to, the expansion of Fantasyland, new bowling alley at Downtown Disney (Walt Disney World), Cars Land at Disneyland, "The Magic, The Memories, and You" show, Art of Animation Resort opening, etc. Check out this video I recorded when I attended the Summer to Remember press event last month. It gives you a glimpse of everything that is to come. Muy exclusivo!

And yes, I think it's a total bummer that they raised their admission prices but I gotta tell you. It is still worth the price. The experiences, service and memories you get in return are priceless.

Birthday parties at Pretend City are easy-peasy!

The kid's first birthday is coming up this Sunday and we are going to have the best birthday weekend he has ever experienced! It's too bad he won't remember any of it... nevertheless, it is going to be so much fun and it's going to start with an awesome birthday party at Pretend City!

On Saturday we'll be heading over to Pretend City and straight into their party room. That boy isn't going to know what hit him when he walks into the party room and sees it all set up for him with bright blue and green colors everywhere. He'll get to eat, babble with his guests and then he'll roam around Pretend City until closing time. We're going to have a GREAT time. We'll get in the car, he'll zonk out on the way home and then be all nice and rested for Disneyland the following day.

So how has the planning process been so far with Pretend City? Easy-peasy! Pretend City will be hosting his birthday party and it has seriously been the easiest party planning EVER. All I did was coordinate a date, chose a party package and that's it. They got to work and now a week until his party they are asking for the number of confirmed guests and which flavor of cake and filling we want. Isn't that the greatest? I just sit here, type out my choice and that.is.it. I don't have to go out, buy matching tableware, shop for a cake, worry about setting up... nada.I do have to worry about what we'll be feeding our guests, but that won't be that hard, especially since the party room at Pretend City has a sink, refrigerator and a freezer.

We chose the Pretend City Experience party package and that package includes all of this:

• Private party room for 1 hour beginning at 10am, 12pm or 2pm.
• Unlimited time in the museum until closing following time in private party room.
• Museum admission for up to 30 guests (including both children and adults). Any guests above the 30 included in the package are an additional $10 per guest.
• Birthday Party Child is complimentary.
• Tables, chairs, sink with running water and refrigerator/freezer provided.
• Two Pretend City party hosts to facilitate the party room set-up, service and clean-up.
• One return pass for all party children.

PLUS all of this:

• Pretend City themed cake
• Hat activity for 20 children
• Tableware (includes tablecloths, silverware, plates and cups for 30 guests)

And in case you're sitting there with a cup of coffee in your hand and wishing you had something sweet to go with it, here's a sneak-peak at his cake. I apologize in advance if you start drooling over your keyboard.

Katherine Enriquez (949.428.3900 x211 | birthdayparties@pretendcity.org) is the party supervisor and she has been a joy to work with. Quickly returns phone calls, thorough in her emails, the whole package. With her and her team working on my baby's party, I'm sure that it's going to make for a very memorable weekend.

I can't wait to see the end product. You can follow all of my pics and tweets on Saturday. I'll be using hashtag #PretendCityBDay.

p.s. You can sign your kids up for the Birthday Party Club and they'll get a ticket for a FREE admission anytime during their birthday month!

More on Pretend City

We all have our guilty TV pleasures, right? I list ANTM, Bridezillas and Bridalplasty among mine and now I have a new one to add - Model Latina. The new season of Model Latina starts today on NuvoTV and I'm ready to meet the cast and get the party started!

The premise of Model Latina is pretty simple. Ten beautiful aspiring Latina models in one huge house competing for the title, cash prize and a modeling contract. Keeping the premise simple is perfect because it allows the contestants to really go for it and do the best the can to nab that grand prize.

Along the way, they'll be put through different challenges, including one that takes place underwater! And for their fifth season they have nabbed Carlos Ponce as one of their judges. Carlos Ponce is a multi-talented Puerto Rican actor-singer. One of my favs and it'll be great seeing him every week. I hope he lets the girls down gently though. Can you imagine being shut down by Carlos Ponce?

The other judges are Ines Rivero: model and Victoria Secret's Angel, Franco Lacosta: photographer, Jocelyn Pierce: model-journalist.

You can see more of what's to come when you view this sneak peak video

And if you like what you see and want to follow all that's to come, follow them on these sites too:

Model Latina on Facebook
Model Latina on Twitter
Model Latina on YouTube

But like you know, I don't have cable so I'll be watching the episode online via their website or hopefully, they'll stream it into Hulu Plus. That would be PERFECT!

Oh, and did I mention that it's being filmed in South Beach. Talk about caliente!

This is a compensated post and in collaboration with nuvoTV and Latina Bloggers Connect.

Latinas deserve a sunscreen that works for us! {GIVEAWAY}

Suncreen. It's a word we hear a lot of here in Southern California, but it's not a word that I heard much about growing up. Latinos in general don't seem to be too caught up in the need for sunscreen. I guess we figure that because we have darker skin that we won't get sunburned, sun damage and/or sun spots. Wrong! Not only will our darker skin get us all of this, our skin will also get discoloration, dark spots and redness.

Artistry by Amway logo

If you're already at this stage (and some of us may be, Latina or not), then I would love to introduce you to a product that is working its butt off to reverse the effects - the NEW ARTISTRY® TIME DEFIANCE® UV Defense SPF 50.

The Artistry Time Defiance UV Defense SPF 50 is available exclusively from Amway and not only does it protect your precious skin from sun damage, it also helps reduce the appearance of existing dark spots, discoloration and redness. It does this through the use of an exclusive Balanced Brightening Complex that includes ten natural plant extracts known for their brightening, soothing and antioxidant properties that will in return give our skin a beautiful brighter look. All of this and it's also waterproof!

However, if you're anything like me you might be thinking, great... another product I have to stack under my foundation, powder, blush, etc. Well, the Time Defiance UV Defense is an ultra-light formula so it won't give you an ashy look that other sun defense creams leave behind. No excuses! Take care of your beautiful skin, it's the only one you've got.

And as long as we're on the topic of beauty, check out this video from Artistry highlighting some of their beauty must-haves for Summer.

New Quinoa dishes at Stonefire Grill (@StonefireGrill) #vegetarian

new vegetarian quinoa dishes at StoneFire Grill

As a vegetarian, I've come across a few interesting foods that are often used in place of meat, as a protein supplement, and sometimes, just an all-around "good food to eat" item. Quinoa (pronounced keen-wah) is one of those foods. Although it looks like rice or pasta, it's actually a seed, derived from South America. It is high in protein, gluten-free, wheat-free and has 9 essential amino acids. Although you can find them in many vegetarian restaurants, they have recently gone mainstream and you can find them in more and more restaurants, including Stonefire Grill.

I was recently a guest at Stonefire Grill where I had the opportunity to try them in all three variations offered:

Keen Green Salad with Quinoa and avocado at Stonefire Grill

Keen Green: A blend of fresh spinach, pesto and quinoa with artichoke hearts, sun-dried tomatoes, avocado and Parmesan cheese for $8.99.

Healthy Hybrid Salad using Quinoa from Stonefire Grill

Healthy Hybrid: Quinoa with garbanzo beans, red onion, green bell peppers, Kalamata olives, cucumber, tomato and artichoke hearts tossed with Dijon mustard vinaigrette and topped with feta cheese for $7.99.

Quinoa from Stonefire Grill

Quinoa (side): Simply prepared in vegetable broth with a dash of fresh lemon, mint and green onions; single $1.59, small $2.99, medium $4.99 and large $8.99.

But I couldn't stop there. It was my first time at Stonefire Grill and EVERYTHING on their menu looked delicious. So our table added breadsticks, their Chopped BBQ Salad (we added avocado and asked for quinoa and BBQ chicken on the side) and we polished it off with carrot cake.

breadsticks from Stonefire Grill
Chopped bbq salad with avocado, quinoa and bbq chicken on the side from Stonefire GrillCarrot Cake from Stonefire Grill

Let me tell you, that was THE BEST carrot cake that I have ever tasted. As it turns out, just like all of their menu items, this delicious peace of heaven is also made in house, from scratch and with the freshest ingredients. It's the most scrumptious piece of carrot cake in Orange County... and it can also be ordered by the sheet!

While we were there, we had the opportunity to talk to Justin Lopez, a spokesperson for Stonefire Grill and son of one of the founders. He shared with us how delighted they were to introduce these new menu items and how excited they are by the dynamic flavor profiles that we have come up with. I can tell you that this is a place that I will come back to time after time. I'm lucky enough that it's only 10 minutes from my home (yay me!), but they have other locations in Southern California too.

About Stonefire Grill
Stonefire Grill, a leader in the fast-casual genre with 7 locations to date, was established in 2000 by sisters Mary and Maureen Harrigan as an homage to their family dinners where delicious food and spirited conversation were served up nightly. The menu of American fare is expansive and features Mesquite BBQ Tri Tip, BBQ and Lemon Garlic Chicken Breast, Baby Back Ribs, and a wide assortment of salads, pizzas and pastas. All items on the menu are available “to go” and each restaurant is even designed with a special entrance dedicated to takeout -- the modern mother’s version of providing a wholesome, delicious meal for her family. Locations are in Valencia, West Hills, Fountain Valley, Irvine, Chatsworth, Pasadena and Thousand Oaks. Catering is also available.

For more information, visit www.stonefiregrill.com, become a fan on facebook.com/stonefiregrill or follow Stonefire on twitter.com/stonefiregrill.

I was invited to complimentary lunch at Stonefire Grill.  As always, thoughts and opinions remain my own.

Britax Head and Body Support Pillow #Giveaway. Courtesy of @SafeConBritax.

Up next in our Britax giveaway extravaganza is the Head and Body Support Pillow. I came across this product during my visit to the Britax headquarters last month. My biggest concern? That it would make a car seat unsafe because I read that add-ons like these were not suggested or encouraged to use with car seats. I expressed my concern to Britax and they let me know that even products like these are tested in their labs for extreme safety! The head and body support pillow is added to their crash tests to ensure that the car seats are still extremely safe! Whew... peace of mind.

Father's Day is right around the corner and if your special man is anything like mine, well... beer and golf clubs just won't do. He's more of a tech and movie guy and if yours is too well then this movie set is PERFECT! Plus, they are all Blu-ray + DVD + Digital Copy combo packs featuring Denzel Washington so it really doesn't get any better than this.

- GIVEAWAY -

What you see is what you get. Three very cool movies, although I can only attest to two of them being super cool because they are the only ones that I have seen. We have yet to watch Safe House (on our list to do this weekend). I have TWO of these prize packs to give away and I'm cutting it shorter than other giveaways because I want to get them in the mail for you to get them by next Sunday. Good luck!

Reseña de la película "Let It Shine" | "Let It Shine" Movie Review in Spanish

About Wreck-It Ralph
Walt Disney Animation Studios and Emmy®-winning director Rich Moore (TV’s “The Simpsons,” “Futurama”) take moviegoers on a hilarious, arcade-game-hopping journey in “Wreck-It Ralph.” Ralph (voice of John C. Reilly, “Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby,” “Step Brothers”) is tired of being overshadowed by Fix-It Felix (voice of Jack McBrayer, “30 Rock”), the “good guy” star of their game who always gets to save the day. But after decades doing the same thing andseeing all the glory go to Felix, Ralph decides he’s tired of playing the role of a bad guy. He takes matters into his own massive hands and sets off on a game-hopping journey across the arcade through every generation of video games to prove he’s got what it takes to be a hero.

On his quest, he meets the tough-as-nails Sergeant Calhoun (voice of Jane Lynch, TV’s “Glee”) from the first-person action game Hero’s Duty. But it’s the feisty misfit Vanellope von Schweetz (voice of Sarah Silverman, “The Sarah Silverman Program”) from the candy-coated cart racing game, Sugar Rush, whose world is threatened when Ralph accidentally unleashes a deadly enemy that threatens the entire arcade. Will Ralph realize his dream and save the day before it’s too late? “Wreck-It Ralph” crashes onto the big screen on November 2, 2012, in Disney Digital 3D™ in select theaters.

The back of my seats are filthy. Seriously filthy thanks to my four year old kicking the back of the seat every time he's in the car. And do you know what I don't have? Kick mats. Those cool organizers for the back of the seats would probably make a difference with the kid since he probably wouldn't want to kick his own stuff. So if you're like me and could use some kick mats, then this is the giveaway for you.

Britax Stroller Board #Giveaway. Courtesy of @SafeConBritax.

I've never really been into strollers and double strollers? Forget about it. They're just to much to handle. They're huge, wide and heavy. However, when an occasion calls for a stroller (say a trip to the swap meet), well then we bust ours out and just have our four year old walk. There are some times though when it would be nice to give my oldest kid a break. For example, our trip to Disneyland this past weekend. His legs were really hurting at night because he walked so much. We spent over 12 hours there! And you know what would have helped? This stroller board:

The Britax Stroller Board is the latest and greatest from the folks at Britax and I'm very happy to be able to give one away to a lucky reader.
