To tell you the truth, I didn't have high hopes for The Three Stooges re-make coming out July 17th. My dad was a HUGE Three Stooges fan and I honestly didn't know how the original could ever be improved. We sat down with our family (a group of about 20) and when it was done I was happy to see that they didn't set out to out-do the original group, instead, it was more like they set out to compliment them. It was funny. The kind of funny that the whole family can enjoy. Nothing raunchy, gross or R-rated.
The story begins with the boys being brought up in an orphanage and growing up there until they have to leave and make some money to save the orphanage. Along the way they encounter different situations that allow them to see the world through their naive eyes as they have never been out on their own. They go through a sort of coming-of-age story that includes a reality show and one of my favorite actresses - Sofia Vergara. I'm happy to say that they gave her a semi-big part in which she does not play a stereotypical Latina. The character she portrays could easily be played by a woman of any other ethnicity and I think it allows her to shine.
I recommend this movie to become a part of your family movie night. The kids will get a kick out of it. Especially if they're into physical comedy. Don't worry though. The very-obvious sound effects are transparent and they even have a special "don't try this at home" segment at the end.
About The Three Stooges
The Farrelly Bros. (There's Something About Mary) bring back a beloved classic comedy act with THE THREE STOOGES, a contemporary take on America's favorite trio of boneheads coming to Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Download July 17 from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. Sean Hayes ("Will & Grace"), Chris Diamantopoulos ("24") and Will Sasso ("MADTV") portray the troika of knuckleheads in three hysterical misadventures.
Left on the doorstep of an orphanage run by nuns, newborns Moe (Diamantopoulos), Larry (Hayes), and Curly (Sasso) grow up finger-poking, nyuk-nyuk-nyuking and woo-wooing their way to uncharted levels of knuckleheaded misadventure. Now, out to save their childhood home, only The Three Stooges could become embroiled with an oddball murder plot while stumbling into starring roles in a phenomenally successful TV reality show.
The Three Stooges is fun for the whole family. With hilarious supporting performances from Larry David ("Seinfeld"), Jane Lynch ("Glee"), Sofia Vergara ("Modern Family") and Jennifer Hudson (Dreamgirls), THE THREE STOOGES "Just Say Moe" edition Blu-ray is loaded with special features including a collection of entertaining and punchy pieces and a unique blend of classic "Stooge" elements in a contemporary setting.
