It’s that time of year again! Heritage Hill Historical Park in Lake Forest, part of OC Parks, is celebrating Christmas. The Candlelight Walk, an annual event, occurs this weekend, December 8th and 9th from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m.
Two enchanting evenings will be offered, with luminary-lit pathways and the park glowing with twinkling holiday lighting. Trail edges will be lit by over one-thousand luminaries, and holiday music will play to keep you in the spirit of the season. You can enjoy strolls through restored historic buildings adorned in holiday decor and staffed by park docents, hear carolers, see live entertainment, listen to storytellers, and visit with Santa. Refreshments like hot apple cider, cocoa, and confections are available for a nominal fee.
Originally dedicated as a park in 1981, Heritage Hill Historical Park's 4.1 acres and buildings span the early history of the Saddleback Valley and El Toro area, and include the Serrano Adobe, a state historical landmark (built in1863) which originally at the site. Other structures were moved to the site over the years in order to preserve them: El Toro Grammar School (built in 1890); St. George's Episcopal Mission (b.1891), and the Harvey Bennett Ranch House (b.1908). As a group, these buildings take visitors on a historical architectural journey (in a village setting) back to the roots of Orange County. It’s an easy-to-navigate park, making it perfect for families, especially those with small children. Please see the OC Parks website for more information.
Don’t miss this opportunity to enjoy this incredible (and highly educational) park and celebrate the holiday season with friends and family. There are no other parks in Orange County quite like this one, in my opinion. Being there for the holidays will feel like a step back to simpler times.
