Sickness is not something that comes to our home too often. When it does, the whole world stops for us and we really dig into our comfort zone.

The hubster does a lot for me and the kids when we get to the point where we can't even move. He comes home with all kinds of treats (most recently, a Dairy Queen ice cream treat), toys, books, games, etc. I lay on the couch, let him take care of the kids and their needs and I really focus on myself.


The last time that I was sick I couldn't stay awake for more than a few hours at a time. Whatever bug I had hit me hard, and I almost went through a whole box of Kleenex (the one in the cute container). I also happened to be breastfeeding at the time so I was not able to medicate myself with some much-needed drugs. Instead, I felt like I was on my deathbed with only a comfy blanket to hold. I relied on the hubster for everything - including keeping cold electrolyte water next to me, the Apple TV control, my iPad and of course, the Kleenex.

I have to tell you, there should be some kind of universal rule out there that parents are not allowed to get sick. It really throws everything off and it makes me long for the days when I was well enough to chase the kids around. When I get sick, I really can't handle anything else and the hubster picks up a lot of the slack (which in turn makes me feel super guilty).
