Thank goodness we rent because four years at our home and the quality of the air has slowly been driving me insance. We live about a mile off of the freeway and we seem to get the ugly black dust. So not only do I have to dust every day to keep my furniture clean, but I also have to keep the windows and doors closed because the dust will just float around the room and I can literally see every speck of dust. It's gross!
The hubster and I have been looking for suggestions on air purifiers for a while now. The thing is, I want to get one (well, preferably two) and have them running non-stop. I don't want to waste my money on a cheap one that will break down quickly, nor do I want to spend a lot of money on one that won't work.
I remember back in the day a now out-of-business electronics place selling an air purifier that was raved about. Years later, I want to find that one air purifier that will be my life saver.
I've been looking at Best Buy's selection of air purifiersand I've narrowed it down to two:
Germ Guardian - 3-in-1 99.97% HEPA Air Purifier ($139.99). It's meant for medium to large room, so I can put this in the living room. The UV-C light technology penetrates and permanently damages the DNA of thin-walled germs and bacteria, including rhinovirus, E. coli and streptococcus (which I've never even heard about, but awesome that it takes care of that too).
The HEPA filter captures 99.97% of airborne allergens and it has an indicator light that tells you when it's ready to be changed. It also has a 5 year limited warranty. Bonus points for being on sale.
Honeywell - AirGenius 3 Air Cleaner/Odor Reducer ($199.99). This purifier is also meant for a medium to large room. It doesn't have a HEPA filter. Instead, it has a washable filter that removes up to 99.9% of microscopic airborne particles and pollutants from the air. It does have a pre-filter that will reduce odors, some VOCs and airborne gasses. It oscillates and it's quiet. I like this one because I recognize and trust the brand name. Plus, it sounds like I would save money in the long run just having to wash the filter. It's not on sale, but using the Best Buy air purifier coupon, I would save 20% on it (bringing the price down to $160).
I think I'm going to leave it up to the hubster to decide between the two because I keep going back and forth on it. I'll just make sure to have him decide before April 15th so we can take advantage of the 20% Best Buy coupon on air purification products:
