How an award-winning salon hosts a ribbon-cutting ceremony | @MarsHairStudio #CostaMesa

Event planner, Raquel Figlio, and the gals (and guy) at Mars Hair Studio really know how to throw a fun ribbon-cutting ceremony.

mars hair studio costa mesa

To prepare for this event, Raquel Figlo of Raquel Figlo Events and Promotions worked closely with Mars Hair Studio to coordinate social media coverage, guests invites and everything else to ensure a successful event. The gift bags, which she also gathered sponsors for, where tailored made for the trendy gals in attendance and included a Dammit DollBangstyle Hair Products and other great products that had me saying, "more!" She also got arranged for Chantel from CCH Photography to be the event's photographer.

The Costa Mesa Chamber of Commerce was also on hand to support Mars Hair Studio and awarded them the Certificate of Recognition for the ribbon-cutting event.

The decor was very lively and parts of the studio, such as the hair sink, were creatively used. In that case, the hair bowl was used as a wine bucket that chilled lots of white wine bottles for us. Fresh flowers, balloons and oranges were also infused into the decorations. It spoke to the earth-friendly lifestyle of Mars Hair Studio.

mars hair studio costa mesa

You might see Martis Duarte, owner and head colorist of Mars Hair Studio driving around in a cute little Smart Car and not think much of it. To her and her studio, however, living an earth-friendly lifestyle is something that comes naturally to them. The studio runs on L.E.D. lights, uses low-flow toilets and even the walls were painted with non-toxic paint. The studio is the type that is eco-friendly and it works because the owners are like that as well.

One of my favorite parts of any event is trying out the food. I get to try out new foods and beverages that I might not have been exposed to otherwise. In this case, I had the opportunity of trying out juices and dessert by Earthly Juices of Tustin.

earthly juices tustin

My favorite was a carrot concoction. I had three different ones and one had beets in it - and it tasted good! The folks at Earthly Juices were also generous enough to provide us with a $15 credit toward their Warrior Cleanse Juice (a Gilt City favorite). Honestly, it's like they read my mind because I really need to cleanse.

mars hair studio costa mesa

Appetizers were rounded out thanks to Greek Town Grill of Costa Mesa. They provided a delicious spread including tzatziki, hummus, spanakopita, feta cheese, kalamata olives, dolmades yalatzi and baklava. By the time I left, the platters had been wiped clean. That's how scrumptious their food is.

I'm so glad to have been a part of such a great event honoring an incredible Latina business owner and friend. I wish Martis the best in her business and if you're in the Orange County area, I highly recommend this salon as your go-to hair cutting, coloring and styling salon. She was, after all, one of Orange Coast's top OC hair stylists.

Favorite beverages from Expo West | #ExpoWest

I had my first Expo West experience a few weeks ago. I went on Friday afternoon with the intention of just doing a quick walk-through and then heading home to the kids. Well... I didn't leave until they basically kicked me out that evening and so on Sunday, I was there again bright and early, but that time I took my 5 year old with me.

Expo West was made with my type in mind. All my favorite brands were there. From foods to beverages to beauty and home care - every single awesome eco-friendly and green brand was there and I also had the opportunity to discover some new ones.

I headed home with a lot of great products to try out and I'm making a conscious effort to take a picture before devouring or using a product. I can tell you already that I've missed the opportunity on a few of them, but for one day last weekend, I did it every time we drank something. Here's what we had:

beverages from expo west
Hubert's Lemonade, Virgil's Root Beer and Nature's Pure Organic Cola

Hubert's Lemonade in Strawberry Lemonade. It's made using the freshest and sweetest lemons from California! Super delicious, even though the kids only gave me a few sips of it. I love that it comes in a glass bottle and the logo is totally cute! My kids recognize it now and when we go to Sprout's, they ask for it.

Virgil's Root Beer. This is the hubster's favorite. We usually buy it at Trader Joe's, but it's pretty mainstream now and we've seen it in plenty of grocery stores. I'm personally not a fan of root beer, but we seem to have it around our home a lot anyway.

Nature's Pure Organic Cola. This was my drink of choice and I can honestly say that it was THE BEST cola I have ever had. Mind you, I've had a lot of cola drinks in my time, and this one is even better than the ones from Mexico. It's not as sugary or syrupy. It goes down smooth and it tastes even better when it's extra chilled. Nature’s Pure contains nothing artificial - no added sodium, and USDA certified organic ingredients

beverages from expo west
Natalie's Hand Crafted Strawberry Lemonade

Natalie's Hand Crafted Strawberry Lemonade. This little bit of goodness comes all the way from Florida. It is fresh squeezed and the quality of the beverage can definitely be tasted. I opened up the little bottle with the intention of drinking it myself. Well, my kid saw it and he ran over to finish off the rest of it. He couldn't stop talking about how good it was. In California, you can find it at Gelson's. Check their website about other locations on where to buy.

Naked juice
Naked Power Garden Tomato Kick

Naked Power Garden. My kids and I love Naked juices. Our favorites are the Green Machines because they have all the green power veggies, but the fruit masks it. This beverage is part of Naked's new Power Garden line. It's full of veggies (this one has tomato, bell pepper, celery and carrot) and has an orange and lemon in there too to kind of balance out the tomatoey flavor. Only 120 calories!

beverages at expo west
Odwalla Smoothies for Kids, Puroast Low Acid Coffee and Mickies Slices in Pineapple Lemon

Odwalla Smoothies for Kids in Grape Berry Prairie. I don't know exactly what I was expecting from this juice box, but it delivered. This particular drink lived up to its flavor description. In this case, this drink has pressed apple juice, crushed grape juice, mashed banana, pureed cherries, smashed strawberries and 1/4 peach. The consistency is like a smoothie, but one can easily drink it from the little straw. Great for lunchboxes! Also available in Mango Pineapple Island and Strawberry Banana Jungle.

Puroast Low Acid Coffee Single Serve. Before Puroast, I had never heard of low-acide coffee. I just saw that Puroast was sampling coffee and I was immediately pulled to it. Bonus points to them for handing out little k-cups for my Keurig filled with their low acid drak french roast coffee. Low acid coffee is best for those that get an upset stomach due to the high acidity in coffee (sometimes because we drink it in the morning before eating). You honestly wouldn't be able to taste a difference between this french roast and another french roast, as far as the taste I mean. It's strong, delicious and better for you than other varieties. I would probably drink it in the morning after my cup of water, but before breakfast.

Mickies Slices in Pineapple Lemon. The packaging definitely stands out. It makes it easier to hold and the way the straw goes in, the little kids can make sure that everything comes out. It also makes it basically spill proof. The one thing that stood for me (besides the ICEE-polar-bear-look-alike) was the amount of vitamins in the juice. Vitamin B is major for our family because the kids are vegetarian, so this is the vitamin that they get the least of. It's also organic!

expo west beverages
Sneakz Organic in Chocolate and Orgain Healthy Kids in Chocolate

Sneakz Organic in Chocolate. This beverage was a standout for me because I'm forever interested in giving my kids even more veggies than they already consume - but I do not want to make them unhealthy in the process (do you remember the chocolate covered carrots?). This beverage's base is skim milk and then it's filled with broccoli, sweet potatoes and carrot. A few other ingredients, including dutch cocoa, are thrown in to mask the flavors of the veggies. I had this beverage a few times and I could taste the sweet potato every time. It has a thick smoothie/milkshake texture and I really think that your kid has to like the taste of sweet potato for them to like the drink. But even then, the kids might not like it so much. My older one, who will happily devour his weight in vegetables did not care for this drink, but my younger one, who has a pickier pallet, did drink at least two over the last few days. If nothing else, you may be able to make a smoothie out of it with ice and more milk/soymilk.

Healthy Kids Organic Ready To Drink Meal Replacement by Orgain. This beverage is meant for the kids that are a bit pickier in their meal choices. It has over 10 different organic fruits and veggies, organic complex carbohydrates from brown rice, 23 vitamins and minerals, 8 grams of organic protein and it's gluten free. My older boy finished it off in a few minutes. For us, it would be one of those drinks that we would carry out on the road with us, but because of the large amounts of food that my boy eats, I would really have to limit them at home otherwise he would gain weight very quickly. This drink meal replacement is available in chocolate, vanilla and strawberry. They also offer adult versions.

fresh pressed apple juice
'Tude Juice

'Tude Juice. Hands down the best apple juice I have ever had. 'Tude Juice makes a line of raw, pressure pasteurized apple juices. They currently produce five different flavors and they all start the same way, with good quality fresh apples. 'Tude Juice uses a cold pressed processing method that is unique to their production. I took their suggestion and served it nice and chilled. It was AMAZING.

This is not a sponsored post. I received these beverages and I voluntarily chose to write about them. All thoughts and opinions remain my own.

Spring Shopping at Westminster Mall | @ShopWestminster

I had the best time shopping at Westminster Mall for Spring fashions. With a $100 gift card provided by Simon Malls, I buckled the baby in the stroller and then the kids and I went shopping for Mami. I had a clear mission - add a dress and some new shoes to my Spring wardrobe that can transition into Summer.

Because of where I live, it is pretty much always Spring or Summer season. Open toed shoes and sandals are never stowed away. Tank tops are used year round and dresses? I practically live in them!

So let me show you a few pieces I purchased at Westminster Mall:

purple top, brown wedges and gold angel wing bracelets
Foreign Exchange top ($2.59), BCBG Wedges ($12.54), Foreign Exchange bracelet ($10.37)

I LOVE the plum tank top from Foreign Exchange. It is so ridiculously comfortable and the length is complete perfection. The wedges from DSW are a great height and because of the neutral tones, I can wear them with just about anything! I'm still diggin' my bracelet too. I like to wear it with my Braced-lets for a more casual look. At night, it's nice to wear it on its own.

Foreign Exchange Dress
Foreign Exchange Chiffon Dress ($17.28)

The chiffon dress is super comfortable. I've only worn it once since I got it, but I do plan on wearing it again - soon! I'm 5'8", so I do wish the length was a little longer in front (maybe one inch more). It's definitely a conversation starter and people tend to turn their heads when they see it. I am in love with Foreign Exchange stores and it's definitely my number one stop from now on for trendy dresses and accessories.

I purchased everything with my Simon gift card. And because I kept forgetting the balance, I was more than happy to use the Simon Mall app on my phone to check the balance (because there is nothing more embarrassing than going to check-out and finding that you've maxed out your gift card). The app is free to download to your iPhone or Android device.

There are a few things that I purchased that are not pictured above. To get the full story, check out my vlog:

Tell me - what is the Spring fashion trend that you're loving right now.

Knott's Berry Bloom Spring Celebration | @Knotts #KnottsSpring

A trip to Knott's guarantees you a few things: great food, fun company and thrills 'til your hearts content. When Knott's is setup with its seasonal decorations, it takes everything up a notch. Case in point: Knott's Berry Bloom Spring Fling.

I had the opportunity to take the kids to this first-ever Knott's event and I can honestly say that we all got something from this special event.

We met up with some other awesome bloggers (Alma, Field Trip Mom and Jill, Sandy Toes & Popsicles are pictured above) and went about discovering all the new events and displays throughout the park.

Search for the Easter Beagle

With our card in hand, we visited the four different spots throughout the park and our cards were punched. After all four spots are visited, kids ages 3-11 can go to the Easter Beagle's Egg Garden and get their treat.

Peanuts' Party in the Park

The kids had a great time rockin' out with the Peanuts characters during the “Peanut’s Party in the Park,” live show located in Charleston Circle. They dance on top of these huge floats and then involve the crowds by getting some of the kids to ride on basket-shaped floats. Our favorite part was being able to visit with the characters and take pictures with them afterwards.

Boardwalk Games

Something truly unique to any theme park was the opportunity to play with huge games. Most of the kids have no idea how to play the games, they're just happy to be pawns IN the games!

The Boardwalk Games are located right next to where the newest theme park attractions will be unveiled this Summer. I got you a sneak peak!

I would LOVE to be on that inaugural ride. It looks amazing.

Lucy's Really Big Show

Lucy has her very own show at Camp Snoopy Theatre. It's a lot of fun for the kids and at one point, they'll dance along with Lucy!

Towering Topiary Tasting Garden

This was my FAVORITE part of Knott's Berry Bloom. It has a nominal fee ($15 for 6 tastings), but unlike most wine tastings, this is one that you can share with the kids. Not the wine of course, but the experience.

You walk in with your wine tasting card and you go about your way choosing which wine you want to taste. They servers will give you a background on the wine and a food pairing to go with it. I was very happy to see that 90% of the pairings were vegetarian and were also kid-friendly.

You also get the opportunity to taste beer with a pairing of either pretzel bits or chicken wings. I'm not much of a beer drinker, but the two that I had were delish.

My favorites wines were the Layer Cake Chardonnay and the Enza Prosecco. I had each one with a piece of toast and olive tapenade.

The kids enjoyed the fresh squeeze lemonade and their little PB&J sandwich pairing. I can't even begin to tell you how much I enjoyed the tasting garden. It's my new favorite "ride" at Knott's Berry Farm and I hope it comes back even when the Spring Fling is gone.

The decorations were a wonderful sight throughout the park. It led to the joyous atmosphere that was felt all day. Everyone seemed to be in a great mood!

I took too many pictures to post here, so I invite you to check the Pinterest board that I created just for #KnottsSpring: Pinterest.com/pattiecordova/Knotts-Berry-Bloom. And if you are in Orange County, or traveling over here, stop by Knott's Berry Farm and check out this event for yourself. It wraps up on April 7th so you have to hurry! Let me know how you like it.

McDonald's Premium McWrap Launch Party | #UnwrapWhatsFresh

McDonald's hosted their Premium McWrap launch party at Paramount Studios. We hung out with celebs and munched on their delicious new McWraps.

Like many other mamas, I take my kids to McDonald's. I do not hide that. It's a fun treat for them and I am happy to find healthier vegetarian options there than at most other fast food places. So when an invite comes through for a new McDonald's food, my ears perk up because I want to see if it's something that my kids and I can eat. Sure enough, the Premium McWraps is something that my kids can, and will, eat!

The premium McWrap is a large tortilla stuffed with lots of fresh veggies and grilled or crispy chicken. Sauce is provided with the wrap. I made it my own by asking them to prepare it without the chicken. which made it completely vegetarian! Skip the sauce and it's even healthier. Bonus points to them for making the tortillas without lard too. At $3.99, the McWrap can easily be a filling lunch!

You'll notice that the wraps come in these different containers. It's a cardboard holder that has a perforated tab around the circumference. You pull it and it takes off half of the container. This helps keeps your hands clean while you eat because you hold the wrap via the container. My five year old will definitely finish off one of these wraps, but my younger one might just have to share it with me.

For the big launch party, McDonald's really went all out and asked a few celebs to stop by. I kept seeing them everywhere, but the ones that were making waves were these:

Tatyana Ali
Tatyana Ali
Khloe Kardashian
Khloe Kardashian
Scott Disick
Scott Disick

There were guest artists that performed during the event, including John Martin.

John Martin
John Martin

And these two great gals kept the party going. At one point, one of the girls was playing the violin to accompany the music being blasted. Girl power!

We munched on fries, smoothies and wraps as we strolled around the party. I gotta say this about McDonald's - they really know how to throw a fun party.

Paramount Studios

Before we left Paramount Studios, Jill (Sandy Toes & Popsicles) and I did our best to work the 360˚ photo booth. Pink hair might be the way to go this Summer.

See more pictures of the Premium McWrap launch party here: Facebook.com/media/set/McDonaldsPremiumMcWrap.

If you're in Southern California, you can join in on the McWrap fun by attending one of their McWrap Parties. Click here to RSVP for your choice of venue.

This is not a sponsored post. I was invited by McDonald's to attend the event without obligation of writing about the food or the actual event. All thoughts and opinions remain my own.

Five minute makeup routine with Neutrogena | #NTGBeautifulInsideOut

I discovered the six products to use to achieve a five minute makeup routine!

I partnered with Latina Bloggers Connect and Neutrogena once again to try out some of their hot new (and established) products. I am always open to trying out new products, and when this package came in the mail, I couldn't wait to give them a try.

neutrogena blogger

I have used the Neutrogena Oil-Free Cleansing Wipes and Make-Up Remover Wipes before and I was happy to see them again in my drawer. The Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock is a family favorite and with the Cali weather being what it is, it's always a must for both me and the kids. The rest of the products, however, were completely new to me, but I was ready for the challenge.

My ultimate objective was to create a look that I could use for an everyday look. I needed a routine that I could do in five minutes or less. I also needed something that would keep all day (especially after the hubster got home) and would control the shine as well.

I started with the Neutrogena shine control primer as a base before applying the shine control makeup. The primer has a very fresh scent and it has the texture of a moisturizer. It's a milky white color but when absorbed by the skin, it goes on clean and clear.

My shine control makeup of choice was fresh beige. It has a titanium dioxide sunscreen built into it with an SPF 20 as well. I chose my color based off of their color chart online and I held my breath when I applied it because I was really hoping that I had chosen the right one - I did!!! The makeup blended perfectly into my skin and seriously, you can't tell that I have foundation on. I promptly dumped my old foundation (forget the fact that I spent $40 on it!). I'm still in shock when I apply it and it blends in so well.

Next up, I added some shine control powder. The back of my powder compact says Invisible 10. If you look at the color inside, it might intimidate you because the color is so light. I took my chances and put it on anyway. It gave the appearance of a translucent powder, so like the makeup, it blended in really nicely too.

I finished my look with the MoistureSmooth Color Stick in Sweet Watermelon, the Crease Proof Eye Shadow in Perfect Pink 30 and a couple of coats of Healthy Lengths Mascara in Black.

I LOVE the color stick. It's my first crayon-like lip color that I have owned and I love the ease in applying it. It goes on very smooth and it even smells of watermelon!  It's a lot of fun to apply it.

The eye shadow made it very convenient to apply as it is already in a stick and all I did was swipe it across my eyelids. The back of the packaging gives you tips on using it to make your eyes brighter or more dramatic. I went for a brighter look.

The mascara definitely added volume, but I can't say that it will replace my other mascara. I did like the long length of the wand though.

My final look was one that I could do in under five minutes. It's perfect because I do like to wear makeup every day, even when I don't go anywhere. I like the hubster to come home to some fresh lip color on my lips. My favorite feature of these new products was definitely the shine control. I have major issues with being too shiny, and these products have helped to either eliminate or control the problem.

The picture above is one I bravely sent out via Instagram - untouched. I am totally digging the line for Spring and next time you see me, you'll know my secret for a more matte looking skin.

This is a sponsored post in collaboration with Latina Bloggers Connect and Neutrogena. All thoughts and opinions remain my own.

Help me decide on an air purifier | @BestBuy

Disclosure: The reviewer has been compensated in the form of a Best Buy Gift Card and/or received the product/service at a reduced price or for free.

Thank goodness we rent because four years at our home and the quality of the air has slowly been driving me insance. We live about a mile off of the freeway and we seem to get the ugly black dust. So not only do I have to dust every day to keep my furniture clean, but I also have to keep the windows and doors closed because the dust will just float around the room and I can literally see every speck of dust. It's gross!

The hubster and I have been looking for suggestions on air purifiers for a while now. The thing is, I want to get one (well, preferably two) and have them running non-stop. I don't want to waste my money on a cheap one that will break down quickly, nor do I want to spend a lot of money on one that won't work.

I remember back in the day a now out-of-business electronics place selling an air purifier that was raved about. Years later, I want to find that one air purifier that will be my life saver.

I've been looking at Best Buy's selection of air purifiersand I've narrowed it down to two:

Germ Guardian - 3-in-1 99.97% HEPA Air Purifier ($139.99). It's meant for medium to large room, so I can put this in the living room. The UV-C light technology penetrates and permanently damages the DNA of thin-walled germs and bacteria, including rhinovirus, E. coli and streptococcus (which I've never even heard about, but awesome that it takes care of that too).

The HEPA filter  captures 99.97% of airborne allergens and it has an indicator light that tells you when it's ready to be changed. It also has a 5 year limited warranty. Bonus points for being on sale.

Honeywell - AirGenius 3 Air Cleaner/Odor Reducer ($199.99). This purifier is also meant for a medium to large room. It doesn't have a HEPA filter. Instead, it has a washable filter that removes up to 99.9% of microscopic airborne particles and pollutants from the air. It does have a pre-filter that will reduce odors, some VOCs and airborne gasses. It oscillates and it's quiet. I like this one because I recognize and trust the brand name. Plus, it sounds like I would save money in the long run just having to wash the filter. It's not on sale, but using the Best Buy air purifier coupon, I would save 20% on it (bringing the price down to $160).

I think I'm going to leave it up to the hubster to decide between the two because I keep going back and forth on it. I'll just make sure to have him decide before April 15th so we can take advantage of the 20% Best Buy coupon on air purification products:

Which air purifier do you think I should go with? The one with the HEPA filter, or the one with the washable filter?

Cowork+Play offers children 6 connected rooms to play in: a lunch room, Lego room, computer room, living room with TV and comfy couch, gym room and air hockey room. All rooms are available any day and with them a selection of board games, books and Legos.

I had the opportunity to check out Cowork+Play last week and I am seriously crushing on that place right now. The way it's set up is Coworking Fullerton is set up on one half of the floor, the other half hosts Cowork+Play - a place where your kids can hang out with other kids and play video games, with Legos, learn about business and technology, play with nerf guns, etc. They are supervised at all times and snacks are also on hand for them!

coworking fullerton

The reason I'm loving it is because I do all my writing at home, while my two kids hang out and do whatever kids do. However, I would feel a lot less guilty if I had somewhere fun to take them, but still be able to do my work! What Cowork+Play has is a gold mine.

During the week of April 8th through April 12th, Cowork+Play is giving parents the opportunity to drop off their kids for labs during the hours of 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. and explore technology and business in a playful way. Might be a great win-win for you!

Bubblefest is one of our can't-miss events that Discovery Science Center hosts every year. We first saw it 5 years ago when our oldest was born. Back then he was too young to really enjoy it, but every year we keep coming back and by now he's grasping the concept of bubbles, the "skin" of the bubbles, how the stick together, etcetera. This year, we were invited to see the show on its opening day by Discovery Science Center and both my boys were besides themselves when they sat down to watch it.

It's a really great show, no matter how many times you've seen it. Deni's sense of humor really shines through and you can count on a kid being put in a bubble in every show. We've seen the show multiple times, but we get such a kick out of it that it's always on our list to do in April.

When you visit the center, make sure to get there early enough to enjoy some fun and FREE hands-on activities like creating giant bubbles, learning about the science behind the amazing Bubblefest show, an inflatable play zone, interactive science activities and more.

My favorite Aveeno products | #AVEENOActiveNaturals

Aveeno first came into my life right before my first baby was born. So when I was given the opportunity to talk about some of my favorite Aveeno products by Latina Bloggers Connect, I jumped on it!

The first product I ever purchased from their line was the Aveeno Positively Radiant moisturizer, and then later the tinted moisturizer. It was at a time in my life where I was just beginning to understand the importance of skin care and stopped focusing so much on the price.

I would throw it in the cart at Target and pay about $14 for the bottle. The hubster would never question my (then) extravagant purchase. It was worth every penny. The way it would smooth out my skin, moisturize it and nourish it. I felt the difference when I used it and it went everywhere with me. When we flew to Italy, it was dumped because of the size restriction and I remember being extremely upset about it. Although I did search for it overseas, I couldn't find it and it was the first purchase I made once we got back home.

Avveno products

When the baby was born he developed really bad eczema. The doctor's suggestion? Slather him with Aveeno lotion. So that's what I did. I didn't bother buying the Aveeno baby lotion, just the one that contained oatmeal. It worked great on his skin and although it didn't eliminate his eczema, it did help tone down the itchiness and bleeding. To this day, it is still in our lotion collection.

I'm looking forward to trying out the Aveeno daily moisturizing body wash (as it so happens, I've been using a bar soap 'cause I ran out of liquid soap. Perfect timing!).

My nighttime regime right now includes using the daily scrub at night, and the brightening cleanser in the morning. I like the daily scrub because it has these mini granules that exfoliates and washes away the day's makeup. The brightening cleanser gives me that clean feeling in the morning that makes me feel like I can tackle on the day.

How to efficiently manage household needs | @AngelSoftLatino #AngelSoft

Being a mami is exhausting... and having mommy-brain doesn't help. What's mommy-brain? That's when you've had kids and your brain is so fried that you forget things unless you write it down.

Latina Mom Bloggers and Angel Soft asked me to share how I manage household needs... now where was I?

Oh yeah, mommy-brain. In order to efficiently manage my household needs I write stuff down. I have a cleaning schedule that I try to stick to and I have a list of things that need to be done at night to "reset" our home. Let me tell you, if it wasn't for all my writing stuff down, we would run out of toilet paper more than we already have.

I've been partial to Angel Soft toilet paper since I got it in the mail. I've always been one to head for the store brand toilet paper because of the low cost and because, well, IT'S TOILET PAPER! Well now I'm totally digging Angel Soft toilet paper because of the softness and strength of it. Thanks to the texture of it, I can buy less of it giving me more of an opportunity to stock up.

When it comes down to it, I need to write down a schedule for myself to efficiently manage household needs. It tends to become a running list and when I see an item on sale, I'll pick it up and store it for when we need it. However, I don't make it a point to cut coupons on a daily basis so when I do see a coupon for a product that I purchase, I'll clip it and store it in my wallet.

I don't know if it has anything to do with the fact that I'm a Taurus, but I tend to be pretty loyal to my brands. Seeing Angel Soft's quality, I can honestly say that I'll be buying more of it. Especially when there are coupons for it (like the ones below).

So tell me, how do you manage your household needs? Do you have an app on your phone? Do you do it old-school like I do? Do you hire outside help?

What you didn't know about Goodwill of Orange County | @OCGoodwill #FindTheGood

Guest post by Justine Burgess

Goodwill of Orange County. The name probably brings to mind thrift stores and donations to help people. But did you know that Goodwill is more than just a thrift store? I recently attended a Goodwill launch event for their new “Find the Good” campaign. It showcased what they do in the community, and let me tell you- it’s a lot.

Background

A non-profit organization, Goodwill was founded in 1902 by Edgar Helms, who took cast-off items, hired people in need of employment to refurbish the items and then resold them, using the profits to pay the workers. Today, there are Goodwill locations across the U.S. and internationally, operating on the principles of providing services to those in need, providing tools to give people independence, and helping people reach their potential. The first Orange County store opened in Santa Ana in 1924.

Some things you might not know about Goodwill of Orange County

  • 92 cents of every dollar into Goodwill of OC goes directly back into funding job training programs and services for people with disabilities or other barriers to independence.
  • It takes $100,000 in sales (yes, 100K!) to hire and train each employee.
  • In 2011, 10,354 people in Orange County were served by Goodwill programs.
  • Over 260 companies in Orange County employ workers trained by Goodwill.
  • They manage the Goodwill auction site, www.shopgoodwill.com. Goodwill locations from around the country participate.
  • They run a fitness center with on-staff trainers for people with disabilities, and have an Assistive Technology Exchange Center (ATEC) for children and adults that do not have the ability to communicate independently.
  • All locations accept e-waste donations, working or not.
  • In 2012, through reuse and recycling, Goodwill kept 12.2 million pounds of refuse out of Orange County landfills.
  • The Goodwill Marketplace in Santa Ana offers items by the pound and through live auction.

How retail sales generate funds

Goods like clothing, accessories, furniture, books, and household items go through a process designed to maximize opportunities for revenue. Collectibles, jewelry, and in-demand items are sorted in the warehouse before hitting the sales floor, and in many cases sold online through Shopgoodwill.com, where they command higher prices. Electronic and computer items are repaired and resold, or broken down and recycled. Items at the retail level are marked with plastic tags of varying colors and put on the sales floor, going through a 4-week sales cycle, at the end of which they are discounted by 50 percent. Any items unsold then go to the Goodwill Marketplace to be sold by the pound or in large lots at auction. Purchasers of auction goods often cull what they want to keep and re-donate what’s left back to Goodwill, giving another opportunity for revenue. Any clothing or other goods left at the end of the process are sold to rag manufacturers or other companies that can repurpose or recycle them.

How you can help

Shop! I shop at Goodwill every week (yes, really!), and it has multiple benefits- I’m reusing clothing and goods to reduce waste, I’m making a contribution to a good cause, AND I get to wear something or have something new to me while still keeping within a very frugal budget. I also donate regularly to make room for my newest treasures. Donate through financial contributions, new or used clothing, household goods, and furniture. Remember, Goodwill also accepts electronics, working or not. Plus, your donation is tax-deductible- make sure to get a receipt. Please see the website for a complete listing of acceptable items, stores and donation-only locations.

Volunteer!

There are numerous opportunities- check the Goodwill website for details. Spread the word! Write, talk, email, tweet, blog, post on Facebook, share with friends…whatever you can do to increase awareness.

Every item donated and every dollar spent online or in-store gets Goodwill of Orange County closer to their goal of doubling the number of people they serve over the next 5 years. With the community working together, we can help Goodwill of Orange County in their mission to provide assistance for those in the greatest need. And really, that kind of giving is truly “Find(ing) the Good” in all of us.

Hispanicize 2013 is shaping up to be the best blogging conference yet.

My first day at Hispanicize came and went. It's been great meeting new bloggers, reconnecting with old friends, learning more about brands that want to work with me and also, tips on becoming a better blogger. The events are fun, as always, and I am very much looking forward to Hispanicize Day 2.

Highlight of the first night's event at The Stage was meeting Lou Diamond Phillips after the premier of Filly Brown.

Oh, and watching him sing karaoke to "La Bamba." It was definitely a moment.

This is not a sponsored post. I received a conference ticket from Hispanicize to attend the event. Travel accommodations provided by Jet Blue.

Emilio Estefan and Noel Lee appeared at Hispanicize 2013 in Miami, Florida to present their newest collaboration, Sound Machine by Monster headphones, to Latino trendsetters and newsmakers.

Earlier this year I talked about Noel Lee's announcement about their upcoming focus on the Latino market. Yesterday, he was on hand at Hispanicize 2013 to discuss Monster Product's new product launch on April 14, 2013 in Target stores and Target.com with their current partner, GRAMMY-Award winning producer and entrepreneur, Emilio Estefan.

Sound Machine Monster headphones

Emilio worked with Monster to develop premium headphones, available in two versions: on-ear and over-ear, retailing at $149.99 and $249.99 respectively. The new Sound Machine by Monster headphones are now a part of Monster's line of high-performance, sonically superior headphones.

Among the first to experience experience the Sound Machine by Monster headphones, prior to their debut in stores, were the folks at Hispanicize 2013. At Target’s Hispanicize lounge, attendees experienced the headphones’ premium quality via listening stations.

Later that evening, Emilio appeared at the 2013 Hispanicize Opening Reception presented by Target and featuring music by DJ Africa.
